There are 3 different races in StarCraft 2. Each race has its own strengths and weaknesses. Each races have a different mechanisms. Thus, if a players want to get the best out of the multiplayer experience on StarCraft II, it is best to find a race that suits his/her play style. Below is a brief description on each of the three race. If a player wants to get more familiar to a particular race, instead of directly diving into the multiplayer world, I suggest playing a few custom games against A.I. to get familiarize with the mechanic of each races.

The following chart show the historical month-by-month winrates for each non-mirror matchup in the database. Note that this yields information about metagame balance near the top of the skill ladder, and is not to be confused with (although likely correlated to) actual game balance throughout the whole player population. The winrate is shown with respect to the race listed. How you feel about that starcraft 2 only has 3 races. Dont get me wrong the races are all very well balanced and got a lot of units. But isnt it a pretty low amount if you compare it whit other RTS around? Its been 10+ years since starcraft and there was enough time to get a 4rd or maybe 5d race in the game. Current and historic sc2 race distribution (by league and region) for teams. The data is calculated by counting all teams ranked in a season. If a player plays in multiple regions in identical teams that team will be counted several times for the world total. See full list on kotaku.com.

Terran are the human, and they rely on military forces and strategies. With their large repertoire of units, tech upgrades and building types, Terran can be very confusing for beginner players. In additional to a extremely complex tech tree, Terran is a race that requires heavily on micromanagement of units and multitasking. Thus, if you want to push yourself to the limit at multitasking, then Terran is the race for you.

Starcraft 2 Races Pros And Cons
Terran are well equipped at expansion due to their ability to build anywhere and that the majority of their buildings can just lift off the ground and fly. Mozilla firefox 9 1. Also, Terran are amazing at defense due to their superb defensive unit — siege tank.

Zerg
Zerg is an insectoid alien race. Zerg units require little to no micromanagement. However, what they lack in strength, the Zerg units make up in sheer number. Zerg has little variety in terms of unit and structure compare to Terran or Protoss. In return, the Zerg have the ability to train all their units at the hatchery. Also, Zerg can train a multiple number of units at once with fast build term. Therefore, a skill Zerg player can overrun his/her opponents by constantly sending in waves of unit.
Nonetheless, Zerg has multiple disadvantages. First, all zerg structures will the exception of a Hatchery must be build on creep. And due to the limited about of spaces that creep provides, Zerg players tends to have small bases with little to no defensive. Thus, Zerg bases are extremely prone to harassment/sniping. Second, Zerg units are very weak. Thus, outproducing the opponent is key to victory. Third, due to the inherent Zerg unit producing mechanism, whenever a Zerg player is producing a unit, he/she is sacrificing the opportunity to make a drone (zerg worker)

Protoss
Protoss are technologically advanced race with very powerful units. With a good variety of unit and building, Protoss can be a little bit overwhelming for new players. But as a less micromanagement-intensive race, Protoss is, in my opinion, the best race for beginner.
However, Protoss have two major drawbacks. First, they are an extremely expensive race. Many resources are required to build an Protoss army. Second, every building except the Nexus and the Pylon are only active and must be build within the Psionic Matrix (energy field created by Pylons or Warp Prism’s special ability) . Without this matrix field, one is unable to produce any units, construct buildings, or warp in units using Warp Gates.
